Family Alliance Counseling Services Partners with OUR FARM
OUR FARM partners with Friederike (Rika) Wilday, LPC to provide Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 19 years of counseling experience. She enjoys collaborating with clients as they work together towards accessing innate strengths and building on successes. Rika uses Greg Kersten's OK Corral Series for Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, and she welcomes the inclusion of Biblical principles for those who would like to incorporate their faith in the counseling process. For more information about the services that she provides or to schedule an Equine Assisted Psychotherapy session, please visit Rika's website at (Family Alliance Counseling Services, LLC - Counselor, Therapy, Emdr). There is a cost for therapy services through Family Alliance Counseling.
About Equine Assisted Therapy
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) brings the counseling session outside an office setting, allowing a horse to become co-therapist alongside a licensed counselor. This allows for EAP to be more experiential. You may find the freedom of working through your thoughts and feelings with a horse, may provide you the space to feel safer to face your internal challenges. Through its sensitive nature, the horse naturally and honestly provides feedback in what it senses in you. A horse is very in tune with emotion states and is aware of somatic cues such as heart rate, and breath rate. The real-time response can be helpful as you learn about yourself and begin practicing new skills such as emotion regulation, mindfulness, and improved self-awareness.
EAP can be helpful with the following challenges:
- PTSD
- Attachment Wounds
- Trauma
- Self-Esteem
- Self-Confidence
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Social Skills
Other Equine Interactions: Horses Give You Hope!
Our Farm's vision is to provide one-on-one Equine Interaction Sessions for all ages with our horses. We are still working on the infrastructure and staffing to make this a consistent part of OUR FARM. Please continue to visit our website as we post updates on these opportunities. The residents of A Place for Us Ministries are allowed to come weekly to participate in one-on-one discipleship sessions with one of our Equine Volunteers. Below are some pictures of the residents interacting with the horses. We also partnered with the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce in May 2024 to host an Ag-Art Tour Day. Below are some photos with Robin (volunteer) and Jon (junior volunteer) demonstrating techniques used at OUR FARM. You will also see a few pictures from our Pilot Renew Hope Camp in October 2023 of the children interacting with the volunteers and horses.

Residents can go weekly to interact with horses to work on self-regulation and emotional stability.
